Hello! I'm Ramsey Ferrer, an applied linguist investigating the nuances of language(s) in diverse aviation settings where multicultural and multilingual speakers come in contact. My research delves into the ways language(s) is used in the field of aviation. I research aviation English in general and aeronautical English, in particular, through various methodologies. Specifically,  I am interested in the intersection between applied corpus linguistics and sociolinguistics and how this offers an innovative theoretical and methodological framework for a corpus-based sociolinguistic study in aviation contexts.

I am currently an Associate Professor of Aviation English in the Aviation Communication Department of the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Philippine State College of Aeronautics, Pasay City, Philippines. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education major in English (cum laude) from the Philippine Normal University, and both my Master’s degree in Teaching English Language and Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics from De La Salle University. I also completed a Certificate Training Program in Curriculum with Specialization in Air Transportation at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Vancouver, Canada.

My doctoral dissertation focused on the development of the Aviation Corpus of English–Philippines (ACE-PHI)—the first large-scale empirical corpus of pilot–controller communication situated in the Filipino aeronautical context in Southeast Asia. Using a corpus-linguistic multidimensional approach, I examined the linguistic dimensions of Filipino aeronautical communication.
